Air sampling was done with a eight stage Andersen sampler in Kurashiki-City, an industrialized urban area, and in Hirusen heights, a rural area about 100km north of the city, in August, 1976. Some elements associated with larger size dust particles (viz. Al, Sc, Th, and Fe) appeared to be mainly soil-derived, whereas other elements associated with the smaller size fractions (e.g. Sb, Zn, Br, V and Se) appeared to be originated from significant anthropic sources such as combustion of fossil fuels. The remaining elements showed no characteristic particle-size distributions and saggested to have composed sources.
