The ring interferometer is highly sensitive and its finesse can be varied with the value of the coupling coefficients of the directional couplers used. In this paper, formulae describing the number of optical paths of the interferometer were derived by grouping optical paths into classes according to the number of the return trips to the coupler which linked the two ring parts.
